Shannon Anderson is a curator and writer specializing in contemporary art and culture. Her curatorial research focuses on psychological and perceptual conditions evolving from contemporary life, particularly the intricacies of communication and connection between individuals and their surroundings. Her curated exhibitions have been shown at galleries across Canada, including the Blackwood Gallery, the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery, Musée d’art de Joliette, Oakville Galleries, Plug In ICA, Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery, the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, the Surrey Art Gallery, and the University of Waterloo Art Gallery, among others. She regularly collaborates on developing exhibitions and projects with co-curator Jay Wilson (andersonwilsonprojects.org), and she previously held the position of Art Curator for the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. She currently serves as the Senior Curator for the Art Gallery of Mississauga.
Shannon has contributed to publications produced by the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba, General Hardware Contemporary, the Koffler Gallery, the Thames Art Gallery, and the Varley Art Gallery of Markham, and to magazines such as Art Papers, Azure, Border Crossings, C magazine, Carousel, Canadian Art, Designlines, EyeMazing Amsterdam, and THIS magazine. Currently based in Oakville, Ontario, Shannon received her undergraduate degree in Art and Art History from the University of Toronto and her graduate degree in Art History from Concordia University. She is a member of IKT (International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art) and a board member of the SAGA Foundation. She is also an experienced arts editor.
